The "Splitting Maul" can be used for splitting large & knotty chunks of wood. The maul's head has a 2-3/4" wide face & is made of the highest quality Swedish steel available. The head is extra heavy for serious work, weighing -1/2" lb. The maul cuts quickly & effectively into the wood, since it is forged & ground to a concave with a thin but very tough sharp blade at the bit. This enables the maul to split the wood efficiently when the thicker part of the axe pushes apart the wood. The poll is very sturdy & is designed for pounding on a splitting wedge. It also has a steel collar guard for extra durability & sturdiness as well. The bottom grip of the 31" long hickory handle is roughened which gives a steady grip even when one's hands are wet or sticky. Overall weight of Maul is 7-1/2 lb. & includes a grain leather sheath.Each axe head is hand-forged from special Swedish steel which is then honed, tempered, & annealed to the perfect hardness by the experienced Gränsfors Bruk Swedish smiths who stamp their initials on the head, creating a one-of-a-kind masterpiece you'll treasure for years to come.

I've been in need of a new splitting Ax, winter is coming, the wood isn't splitting its self... I tried waiting but that didn't work. Hardwick and Sons had a quality Axe, still hand made and with a guarantee, at a reasonable price. The Axe is great, it shipped quickly, and arrived 3 days later. Thank you for the great service! The Axe is very well made and has a good head wight. It comes with a sheath and sharpened! The hickory handle is rough and easy to grip, though if you're used to composite handles you'll need a good set of gloves.
