The farrier's knife was designed in close collaboration with veterinarians & blacksmiths. A well made & great flat-bladed knife which is composed of Triflex carbon steel. The Triflex steel is carbon steel that is harder near the edge of the blade & softer near the back, which enables the blade to be more resistant to breaking. The makeup of Triflex is C75 steel with a hardness of 58-60 HRC. The fixed blade extends down through the red plastic handle. This knife also may be use in other purposes as well other than hoof care!
About Carbon Steel
High carbon steel is tougher & harder than stainless steels, making it ideal & desired for applications where durability is required, & where frequent regrinding is needed. Carbon steels are sharper & more durable, & have razor-sharp edges. Carbon steel in general is easy to re-sharpen as well when the need arises.
* Important! Care for your carbon steel knives *
Since carbon steel has superior cutting qualities due to it's hardness & toughness, it's resistance to corrosion caused by moisture is low as a result. Therefore, it is important to try & keep your carbon steel blades away from moist or damp environments as much as possible. It is also a good idea to occasionally wipe the blade with a light oil, such as mineral oil from time to time. It is also a good idea to wipe the blade dry after each use.
