The "Mortise Axe" is used when working inside the knots in the timbering process & can completely replace the chisel. The axe is good for hewing sills & notches in joints. With it's unique shape, the axe enables one to hew a long way down into the notch. The axe may also be used for making holes in the fence (posts) poles. Made of the highest quality Swedish steel available, this axe's head weighs 2-1/2 lb. & has a 2-1/4" long face with 19" long hickory handle. Axe includes a grain leather sheath as well.
Each axe head is hand-forged from special Swedish steel which is then honed, tempered, & annealed to the perfect hardness by the experienced Gränsfors Bruk Swedish smiths who stamp their initials on the head, creating a one-of-a-kind masterpiece you'll treasure for years to come.
