Overall success, I quickly received for I ordered and I am happy with the product. I couldn’t tell if the new store in Idaho was set up yet so I emailed Hardwick and son and about how proceed. They got back to me the next day and I was able to order online with no problems. I ordered two of these cages, one for me and one for my woodworking friend as a gift. Thanks Hardwicks for all the years.
bevel gauge
Quality product , as described , fast shipping, couldn't be happier
Beautiful, rugged, has the angles you need for woodworking
I have the other version of this too, made from stainless, much thinner and has probably twice as many angles. But for woodworking I only need a few, basically between 15 and 35 in 2.5 degree increments and then 45 for scraper plane blades. This has all the ones I need. It feels nice in the hand, has some weight to it, and is rigid, unlike the stainless version which could bend/crease if you laid it on the bench carelessly and something heavy ended up on it. I definitely recommend this one for woodworking where the bevel angles are in a relatively narrow range and the bevels tend to be longish. This type of gauge won't work for very thin blades like maybe a swiss army knife where the bevel is only a millimeter or two long. Also it's easier to use for single bevel blades, but that accounts for the vast majority of woodworking blades. I would definitely do it again and recommend.
Didn't do the job I needed
I bought the gauge to measure angles on knives I was preparing to sharpen, but none of the angles on the gauge were acute enough/small enough to fit any of my hunting knives.
Bevel gauge
A quality tool that gives an accurate bevel degree. Very useful.
