I know this saw well and I've had one for years. The blade finally got too dull and my old supplier, Hardwick's, has replacements available!

Japanese saw blade

The item is exactly what I was looking for. You are the only source I could locate and I am so glad to see you are still in business. I spent many hours wandering through your place on Roosevelt for close to 40 years and always found something I really needed. Very happy to know I can still find those needful items. Joe Chitty

Z saw blades

High quality saw blades. Arrived quickly from Hardwick’s, my favorite tool supplier.

  •  A great all-purpose Japanese pull-saw blade that can be used for frame work, general lumber & dry woods, or for use in the garden & on green woods as well. It is a great saw for the professional, or the DIY homeowner alike. The blade depth is 1-7/16" which allows the saw to get into tight or difficult areas when sawing. The teeth are impulse hardened which makes the blade tough & durable for prolonged life & wear. See here for the "Orikko" 210 mm Folding Z-Saw. One of our most popular Japanese pull-saw blades.  Made in Japan.

    About Japanese Pull Saws

Japanese saws cut on the pull stroke. Their teeth are very precise & are angled towards the handle; this allows you to cut with great efficiency & control, resulting in precise straight cuts. Another benefit with cutting on the pull-stroke is that you are able to follow your cutting line, giving you accurate & smoother cuts. The blades on Japanese saws are generally constructed of a thinner steel which produces a finer kerf (space left by the blade). Another major benefit by cutting on the pull-stroke is that less force & effort is required when sawing, leaving you not as fatigued when working. Western saws (push saws) on the other hand, typically have teeth that cut on the push stroke. By cutting on a push stroke, the wood will splinter & chip away from you (which is desired in certain circumstances). Western saws typically have thicker blades to keep from bending out when pushing through the cut; they also generally create a larger kerf than Japanese saws. Many Japanese Saws also have blades that disassemble from the handle, making storage easy for a small bag or toolbox. Also, one can get replaceable blades for their Japanese saws when needed.

Hardwick & Sons is pleased to offer quality tools from Japan for the many people who desire special & well-crafted tools. The wide variety of Japanese products that we offer come from the many craftsmen & toolmakers in Japan who have a special dedication to their skillful craft & art of toolmaking.
