They have a black (Japanned) finish on cast iron material for a nice & attractive look. The utility turn buttons style date from 19th century, but will fit in with any time period up to the current modern styles. Good, but the screws can be weak - they’re brass and the slot can strip - and after 5 months in the Seattle weather the buttons are starting to bleed rust.
