  •  This Japanese Z-saw is a handy compact saw for smaller-medium projects, & great for fast & straight cuts. It's good for general lumber, hard & soft woods, for plywood, & for laminate board too. The blade has a special starting "beak" tooth, which allows you to start a cut in the middle of a wood panel. The saw also features a metal spine back which gives the saw accurate straight cuts. The teeth are impulse hardened which makes the blade tough & durable for prolonged life & wear. The blade also can be removed when/if needed to be replaced. See replacement blade here.  The handle is made of wood, wrapped in traditional Rattan for a comfortable grip.    Made in Japan.

    About Japanese Pull Saws

Japanese saws cut on the pull stroke. Their teeth are very precise & are angled towards the handle; this allows you to cut with great efficiency & control, resulting in precise straight cuts. Another benefit with cutting on the pull-stroke is that you are able to follow your cutting line, giving you accurate & smoother cuts. The blades on Japanese saws are generally constructed of a thinner steel which produces a finer kerf (space left by the blade). Another major benefit by cutting on the pull-stroke is that less force & effort is required when sawing, leaving you not as fatigued when working. Western saws (push saws) on the other hand, typically have teeth that cut on the push stroke. By cutting on a push stroke, the wood will splinter & chip away from you (which is desired in certain circumstances). Western saws typically have thicker blades to keep from bending out when pushing through the cut; they also generally create a larger kerf than Japanese saws. Many Japanese Saws also have blades that disassemble from the handle, making storage easy for a small bag or toolbox. Also, one can get replaceable blades for their Japanese saws when needed.

One of the best saws ever.

This saw has been my favorite go-to hand saw for most of my woodworking career. Sharp cuts, protective cover, blade breaks down easily for stowing inside a tool bag and not get caught on everything. It's great for detail work, precision, etc. Cuts on the pull, like most Japanese saws and is flexible enough for flush cutting. Thin blade means less material loss and sawdust - so it's great with thinner material.

I absolutely love these saws. I use them for model making and jewelry. Bought my first one from this store 15 years ago and still have it.
