A traditional & authentic old-style interior mortise lock set with a thumbturn for the deadbolt operation & locking of doors. This lock is a replica of common-style mortise locks from the past century, although it will easily fit in with any time period from early 20th century to current modern styles. The plates, thumb turn piece, latch & throw-bolt are made of high quality solid brass for a real handsome look. The lockset case is made of thick steel with a well-built internal mechanism & bolt, unlike many basic locks out on the market today. The 2-1/2" backset measures from the edge (front) of the plate, to the center of the hole. This old-style privacy lockset is available in unlacquered brass (will patina naturally), oil rubbed bronze, & polished nickel finishes. The mortise lock dimensions conform to the original (and authentic) antique mortise lock that I replaced (circa 1919, or thereabouts). It was hard to find a lock mechanism that conformed to the original dimensions and I’m glad H&S takes pride in stocking the correct product(s) for old houses. Delivery was quick and I was given a tracking number and updates while the order was en route. Great service!

The item is well suited for my needs and is better than great in looks and substance. The only problem I have is the E clamp securing the crescent turn to the escutcheon is impossible to remove without breaking it. Without removing it I could not use my existing doorknob/thumb lock escutcheon. I think I have a work around, but won’t know until I try securing the new e-clamp I purchased separately. I found the manufacturer's customer service response to my inquiry on this issue unsatisfactory.

Been on a mission to paint the doors in my old home, polish the mortise lock sets and brass keyholes. Ran into an issue where the thumbscrew on a bathroom door broke on disassembly. Ordered the classic brass interior mortise lock set with thumbturn as a replacement. Getting an exact match was unlikely and this was not an exact match. But, it was close enough and I got it work. Love the design with the thumbscrew where an old skeleton key would have been used. The skeleton keys for the mortise locks I have are long gone. If a similar situation arises, I would not hesitate to order again. Shipment was fast. Price was reasonable!
